The Spanair flight, flight number AJK5022, due to take off at 14.45 local time, had around 166 passengers and 6 crew on board and initial reports suggested that there may have been an engine fire in the left engine of the McDonnell Douglas MD82. Unconfirmed reports suggest a death toll of 45 and rising, with 19 seriously injured.
